The NoZes
READING band The Nozes were formed to do a one-off gig 18 months ago, but proved so successful that they've stayed together to make a bid for the big time. They are now looking for a recording contract. In the meantime, they can be seen at the Caribbean Club in Reading's London Street next Friday. The band is led by 27-year-old Lou Spyrou of Woodley who writes most of their material. He previously played with Tommy Torch and the Beacons who reached the semi-finals of the Melody Maker contest in 1979, as well as local band Lorelei. The band have produced a demo tape of three songs which reveals a Police-like white reggae on two of them in the Right Time and Both Feet On The Ground. Right Time has lead vocals that have more than a faint trace of Lindisfarne about them while Both Feet is a more intricate song that is well arranged by lead guitarist Hari Brzezinski. The other two members of the group are 21-year-old drummer Tony Pellerin and 26-year-old bass guitarist Tom Prince who shyly admits to the Smurfs being one of his musical influences.
